Ava - Writing Desk / Bureau

Meet Ava – a beautiful Art Deco style antique bureau, restored and hand painted in a rich black on the exterior and a warm soft grey with taupe-pink undertones on the interior.

The desk has been lined with original Timorous Beasties 100% drapery linen, hand-printed in the ‘Fruit Looters’ design on the lichen coloured fabric. The fabric has been edged with black velvet ribbon.

The beautiful name of this piece is derived from the Latin for bird. Using the pink-grey tones of the jay bird on the fabric as inspiration for the interior colour, Clementene has used her signature brush technique to add texture and tone to the paint to create a naturally aged patina.

Ava has her original brass drawer pull. The handle for the desk lid was missing, so Clementene sourced an antique style brass knob in a floral design cast from a knob from the Art Deco period to complement the floral carvings on the corners of the exterior of the desk lid.

The piece has been fitted with new black fine felt strips on the desk top side rests and Clementene has brushed gold leaf gilding along the edges of the desk dividers. The arched sections of the original dividers have been replaced.

The piece has three generous drawers and four roomy desk dividers inside the desk itself. A beautiful new gold silk key tassel creates an elegant finish.

This is a splendid, one-of-a-kind vintage piece which will look ideal in a study, a living room, or even a bedroom - anywhere where one may feel inspired to put pen to paper!

All of Clementene's painted furniture is lovingly restored and fit for purpose. Please note that some pieces may have suffered a few knocks and scrapes before it came to Clementenes. After all, it’s what gives the furniture its personality and charm. Clementene repairs what needs repairing, but as for any little imperfections she embraces these and will often highlight them as a feature. Clementene will always do her best to show sizeable bumps (if any) in her photographs. Although she hopes that if you’ve come this far, you’ll welcome the unique character of each piece as much as she does!
